Spartanburg, SC- Bill Galgon, 82, husband of Regina Wilschak Galgon, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 24, 2021. Born September 13, 1939, in Czechoslovakia, Bill was a son of the late Paul and Susanna Stefany Galgon. After entering the United States through Ellis Island, the family settled in Philadelphia, PA where Bill was raised and in time made his home with his wife. As a young person, Bill met Regina at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a German speaking congregation in Philadelphia where eventually they were married on July 25, 1964. They were active as youth leaders and members of the fellowship group, Pairs and Spares. After high school Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force. Upon leaving the Air Force he was employed as an engineer at Progress Lighting in Philadelphia. He worked there for many years until the company transferred him to the Spartanburg area. Bill loved to travel with Progress and often went to China on business making many wonderful friends along the way. After working his entire career at Progress Lighting, he retired in 2006. Bill was a charter member of Joy Lutheran Church in Moore where he served as the first Treasurer and Property Chair. Each week he could be found on the church property fixing something or sprucing up the grounds. He served the church for years in many ways loving the people as well as the ministries of the congregation. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by family in the Philadelphia area; sister Ida Ujj, niece Karen Becker (William), nephew Joseph Ujj (Katie), brother-in-law and sister-in- law Walt and Carol Woytus, niece Monica Liberty (Greg), nephew Walt Woytus, Jr. (Karen), and niece Alycia Heffelfinger ( Steve), as well as many dear friends. The family will receive friends Saturday, October 2nd, 1:00PM at Joy Lutheran Church. A memorial service will follow at 2:00PM officiated by Reverend Lane Bembenek and Mr. E.P. Martin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Joy Lutheran Church, 3980 Moore-Duncan Hwy, Moore, SC 29369 and will be contributed to the Youth National Gathering Fund in Bill’s honor.
