William Lawrence McLeod

William Lawrence “Mac” McLeod, Jr., 84, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025. He was born March 10, 1940 in Tarboro, NC to William Lawrence McLeod and Laura Margaret Shaw McLeod and was raised in Durham, NC where he met his wife Rachel Lillian Crutchfield McLeod. They were married for 49 years before Rachel’s passing in 2012.

Mac graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating, Mac and Rachel spent two years in Anchorage, Alaska where Mac served as an officer in the US Army. Mac worked for Milliken for 40 years. Milliken took them to many Milliken towns before settling in Spartanburg.

As a long-time member, Mac enjoyed attending Westminster Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, SC. He spent many hours at his hunting land in Union, SC where he introduced his grandchildren to the joys of hunting and the outdoors. He also enjoyed restoring antique and classic cars, spending countless hours working with his sons and grandsons on his 1948 Fords and classic Mustangs and Broncos. 

He is predeceased by his wife Rachel and his parents. He is survived by his brother David McLeod (Judy); children, Keith McLeod (Georgeanna) of Mauldin, SC, Steven McLeod (Julie) of Anderson, SC, Laura Green (Jimmy) of Piedmont, SC; grandchildren, Julie Sykes (Jackson), Kelly Young (Tucker), Emily and Lindsey McLeod, Porter McLeod, Miller Wortham (Andrew), Lauren, James, McLeod and Lillian Green; great grandchildren, Noah and Tatum Young, Vivian Sykes.

Above all else, he loved and served those around him with the steadfast and faithful love of Jesus. 

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 2:30 PM - 3:45 PM, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 309 Fernwood Dr, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Memorial Service will follow at 4 PM in the sanctuary, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Steve Wise.
