William Curtis Strickland, age 76, of Wellford, SC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Born on May 19, 1947, he was the son of the late Howard Earl and Frances Lancaster Strickland and widower of the late Mertle Garrett Strickland. Born and raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Curtis graduated from Dorman High School in 1966. He answered the call to duty by enlisting in the United States Army, where he bravely served his country for four years during the Vietnam War. Stationed in Thailand as an intelligence operator, Curtis’ commitment to his duty was unwavering. Upon returning home, Curtis continued his service in a different capacity, joining the Spartanburg City Police Department. His sharp intellect and dedication to justice propelled him through the ranks, ultimately becoming a respected City Detective and Lieutenant Officer. Curtis tirelessly worked to keep his community safe for many years until his well-deserved retirement. Beyond his professional achievements, Curits’ true joy in life came from his family and friends. He was a devoted husband and father, finding immense happiness in spending quality time with his loved ones. Those who knew him best will remember him for his infectious laughter, his quick wit, and his captivating stories. In his leisure time, Curits found solace in the simplicity of life's pleasures. He enjoyed fishing and card games, especially poker matches with friends. His love for life and his warm, welcoming spirit endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Curtis is survived by his daughters, Stacy Ballard (Mark) and Michelle Antall (George); grandchildren, Heather Young (Charles), Spencer Shope, Grayson Williams, Lauren Hobbs, and Kinsley Knox (Kolby); great-grandchildren, Rylen Thomas, Readen Sims, Raen Brown, Charlie Young, Reazen Brown, Silas Knox, Reigen Brown, Olivia Young, and Anna Knox; and siblings, Sandra Strickland Link (Mike) and Charles L. Strickland. He was predeceased by his siblings, Earlene Strickland Rochester, Howard Strickland, Jr., Michael Strickland, and Doris Ann Strickland. Memorial services will be 2:00pm on Saturday, March 9, 2024 in the J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation following the services.
