Sherri Williams Skelton

February 9, 1959 — April 19, 2023

Sherri Williams Skelton went home to be with the Lord on April 19, 2023 after a courageous 10-month battle with cancer. She was born on February 9, 1959 in Greensboro, NC to Charles and Helen Williams. Sherri grew up in the Winston-Salem area and had an interest in music and academics from an early age.

Due to her naturally deep empathy for others, she chose nursing as a career and after high school graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. In her early career her love of children and babies saw her working as a labor and delivery nurse in Charlotte, NC where she met a young medical student who would win her heart and become her future husband, Dr. John Stuart Skelton, Sr.

After many happy and engaging years of raising her three children, she returned to nursing first as a volunteer for St. Luke’s Medical Clinic in Spartanburg, SC; and later began one of her most cherished roles in life as “Nurse Sherri” for Meeting Street Academy in Spartanburg, SC.

Sherri is survived by her husband of 38 years John Sr.; son John Jr. (Laura) of Dallas, TX with grandchildren Ian, Aria, and Austin; daughter Jessica (Javier) of Greenville, SC with grandchildren Liam and Carys; and son William (Emily) of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by her sister Carolyn (Bob) of Sparta, NC; and her brother Robert (Priscilla) of Winston-Salem, NC; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Her beloved grandchildren knew her as “Mimi”. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A visitation will be held Friday, May 5th, 5-7PM at Dunbar Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be Saturday, May 6th, 1:00PM at Dunbar Funeral Home.
